Solidarity with Haïti

Following the catastrophe which struck Haiti, Agreenium wanted to provide its assistance and support in the reconstruction of the country.
In the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti, Agreenium undertook to support the relief effort and assist in reconstruction. Through its research network, Agreenium offered to provide accommodation for researchers, teachers and doctoral students in its higher education and research structures.

Agreenium is involved with the organizations coordinating the solidarity actions: the Ministry of Higher Education and Research, the International Agency for Research and Development, the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fishing, etc.

The underlying principles are:
  • Actions are based on former, on-going or planned partnerships and projects ;
  • Focus on the aftermath and the mid- to long-term situation ;
  • Actions are based on Agreenium’s core interests and skills ;
  • Listening to the needs and expectations of the Haiti authorities ;
  • Coordinating its members without excluding any other relevant partner ;
  • Mobilizing the skills of its members and external resources.
Actions undertaken so far:
  • Creation of coordination grou ;
  • Mobilizing colleagues from within Agreenium ;
  • A series of projects ;
  • Maintained and reactivated partnerships ;
  • Emergency accommodation ;
  • Possibilities of long-term institutional involvement ;
  • Two analysis and diagnostic missions (April 2010 and May 2010).
Agreenium’s aims are to coordinate and mobilize the skills of its members, principally in the areas of research, training and development, and to find the external resources required for its projects. The aim is to propose relevant fund-raising projects, in agreement with the Haiti authorities.
