Solidarity with Haïti
Following the catastrophe which struck Haiti, Agreenium wanted to provide its assistance and support in the reconstruction of the country.
In the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti, Agreenium undertook to support the relief effort and assist in reconstruction. Through its research network, Agreenium offered to provide accommodation for researchers, teachers and doctoral students in its higher education and research structures.
Agreenium is involved with the organizations coordinating the solidarity actions: the Ministry of Higher Education and Research, the International Agency for Research and Development, the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fishing, etc. The underlying principles are:
A certain number of projects have already been proposed as a basis for discussion: Projects to be continued and adapted to post-earthquake circumstances Emergency accommodation (accueil d’urgence) for students and teachers (EduLink), CaribVet (Caribbean Animal Health Network), DEVAG (DEVelopment of AGroecology), CariWatNet (strengthening the Caribbean scientific community in natural resources management and developing integrated watershed management), Improvement of banana cultivation. Training Protection and accessibility of agronomic documentary resources; Teaching missions, support for higher courses in agronomy, intern and apprentice supervision; Vocational training, Professional water-management school, supporting cooperation actions with agricultural technical training, etc. Development Research Reviving agricultural production and supplying seeds and technical support ; Improving plants (sorghum) ; Animal virology and swine diseases ; Food safety and agricultural revival: optimizing local resources ; Resilience of Haiti’s agricultural systems in response to crises.
