Cirad An establishment responding to global agricultural and development challenges: Cirad is a French research centre which generates and transfers know-how in partnership with developing countries.

Cirad is a French research centre working with developing countries to address agricultural and development issues.In partnership with a wide range of developing countries, Cirad generates and transfers new knowledge to support agricultural development and contribute to the debate about major global agronomic issues. Its activities involve life sciences, social sciences and engineering sciences in the areas of agriculture, food and rural land.

Strategy

Its strategy is based on:

  • 6 research priorities: Ecological intensification; Biomass energy; Food security; Animal health and emerging diseases; Public policy, poverty and inequality; Agriculture, nature and societies ;
  • 25 joint research platforms throughout the world (Brazil, Madagascar, Cameroon, Thailand, Vietnam, Senegal, Costa Rica, Laos, Niger, Benin, etc.) ;
  • A new geo-partnership approach bringing together and strengthening Cirad’s international cooperation system ;
  • 7 regional scientific platforms in French overseas départements (Réunion, Antilles, Guyana).

 Cirad has a global outlook with an international network of partners. Its regional offices coordinate its work in more than 90 countries.
 In metropolitan France, it provides the national and international scientific community with an extensive research and training system based primarily in Montpellier.
